Tutorial 2: Buttons

For the first button i won't do any pictures, because it is really easy. If you don't understand any of it, tell me.

Make a new image and fill it with transparancy (an option for when you are making a new image or r-click the bg layer and click add alpha channel, then press delete of ctrl k)

Make a rounded rectangle ( Select -> Rounded rectangle) Or do any shape.

Fill it with a bright colour (bright blue for instanse, but not white)

Make a new layer and call it highlight.

Make another rounded rectangle selection from about a bit below the top to a bit below half way.

Select your gradient tool and change the fg colour to white if it isn't already and change the gradient type to fg to transparent.

Hold shift and drag your gradient from the bottom to quite a bit above the top. Keep trying this untill it looks right. If too many people are having trouble with this i will post an image.

Now just simply add text.

(Bonus idea)
Make a drop shadow (Filter>Light and Shodow>Drop Shadow for GIMP 2.4 and 2.6 (i think) or Script fu>Shadow>Drop Shadow. If you have non of these options go update your gimp!)

Uncheck Allow resizing, but offset x and Y at 4 and blur radius at about 15.

Taadaaa...

If you want to make this button POP from the background, you might want to try a bevel of around 5 (Filters>Decor> Add Bevel)
